If you know me, you won't be surprised when I tell you that 90% of my Instagram algorithm revolves around dogs. This is what led me to some amazing accounts that advocate for rescuing, fostering, and adopting. These wonderful people then inspired me to do the same. So I reached out to the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana asking if I could photograph some of their adoptable dogs, and I received the most excited and gracious response.
Since then, together we have arranged several meetups at Betty Virginia Park. A handful of volunteers meet me at the park roughly once a month with some of the sweetest doggos looking for homes. The dogs get an outing, exercise, social time, and treats. I get to pet them. It's a win/win all around. Getting to know these dogs and capturing their distinct personalities with my camera has hands down been one of the most fulfilling things I've ever done.
Many of the dogs I have photographed have since been adopted, while many are still waiting for families to fall in love with them and take them home. (Falling in love with them should not be an issue, I have instantly done so with every single one of them...) Whether these photo sessions played a part in any of the happy endings, I may never really know. But advocating for these precious babies will always be important to me.
Here's hoping that they all find loving homes! They deserve nothing but the best!
